THE PRINCIPLES, THE FIVE PILLARS and FUNDAMENTAL TEACHINGS OF THE BALLARAT KARATE CLUB

PRINCIPLES

1. That members will conduct them selves as befits a league of Gentlemen (and Ladies).

2. That the club remains a ” Not for Profit “ organisation.

3. The club is a Fighting Dojo.

4. The core system of practice is Shorin Ryu Matsumura Seito.


THE FIVE PILLARS

1. Kihon Geiko
 –  (Basic training and exercises).

2. Kata –  (Traditional practice of attacking and defensive techniques).

3. Kobudo –  (The practice of ancient Okinawan weapon forms).

4. Tuite –  (Street self defence utilizing pressure point strikes and joint locks).

5. Kumite – (Free sparring contest).


THE FUNDAMENTAL TEACHINGS OF SHORIN RYU MATSUMURA SEITO – AUSTRALIA

1. Shizentai dachi
 – Natural body stance for balance and mobility.

2. Tai Sabaki – Body change drills.

3. Low kicks – Used in conjunction with striking techniques.

4. Simultaneous – Deflect and strike.

5. Simultaneous – Seize and strike.
